April 25th

It was raining but the people of Radolfzell weren't fazed by that. It rained a lot in Baden-Würtemburg in the spring, and their lives went on as always.

Gabrielle was waiting for the city bus that would take her home from school. Most of her classmates were gone already, heading to the sports center or their music classes or shopping, but she had to wait for the bus that carried her across town, to the new housing section near the highway to Singen. She spent her time studying the marzipan figures in the window of the confectionerie. Gabrielle hated marzipan, but it did make some interesting shapes. She was so taken with the very real-looking marzipan tulips that she almost didn't notice the bus coming. But when it pulled away, she was aboard, dripping rain from her coat and umbrella and making her way down the aisle.

Just before she sat down, she noticed the guys in the back. Three of them, all young and cute. Her seat faced away from them, but she sat as much sideways as she comfortably could so that she could glance at them. They were alternately looking out the window and studying some map, all the time talking animatedly. If their bright clothes and the backback on their seat hadn't marked them to her as Americans, then their loud conversation certainly would have.

"C'mon, Erik, gimme the map," the tall one with the doe-brown eyes said to the little one with the black hair.

"I got it! I got it!," the dark one said. "I found the hotel. Now, what street is this?"

"Uh..." the blond one said, "it says.... 'einbahnstrabbe'."

"That can't be right," the tall one said. "We were on Einbahnstrabbe before we turned the corner."

The dark haired one was still looking at the map. "I don't see Einbahnstrabbe anywhere," he said as the bus stopped. Three women in raincoats queued up to get off the bus.

"Give me the map."

Gabrielle was giggling at their confusion. She was about to offer her help when the blond jumped up and pointed out the window. "Look, there's Jacob!" he said. "And Trevor! Let's go." The three jumped up. The tall one grabbed the temporarily forgotten backback, and the dark-haired one crumbled his precious map. Then they were gone. Before the bus took off, Gabrielle saw them greeting two other guys outside a hotel.

She continued on her way home, where her homework and studying kept her from thinking about them again.
